About the Program
The ACCESS program is a yearlong program for at risk high school students in Elmont, New York. This program seeks to empower at risk youth to work and succeed through formal training, paid internships, and mentorship. Our goal is to give youth access to professional work experiences and interactions. The program prepares youth for a life of work and self-sufficiency through formal training, paid internships, and mentorship. The ACCESS Program is funded by the Universalist Congregation at Shelter Rock (UUCSR) Large Grant Funds.
This is the first year of the ACCESS program and we have piloted the program with at risk adolescent’s ages 16-21, who attend Elmont Memorial High School and Sewanhaka High School.

Students accepted into the program have/will:
**GYO is currently seeking employers willing to partner with us to employee youth once they complete the curriculum portion of the ACCESS program. GYO will pay the wages ($8.75hr for up to 15hrs a week, From February 2016-June 2016). Requirements of applicants:
- Be a high school student between the ages of 16-21 years old at Sewanhaka High School and Elmont Memorial High School.
- Be passing majority of classes
- Be at risk, defined by (economic, social/home standing, involvement with criminal justice system, and variances in academic achievement).
- Complete a resume, application and submit it with references to GYO
Students accepted into the program have/will:
- Participated in an 8-10 week job readiness curriculum
- Attended professional development workshops
- Working part-time
